Fishing Tipof The Week From Beaverkill Angler

Tip of the Week - Recent rain has brought the rivers up and thrown a little color into the water. Wading is limited now, but depending on how much rain we get today they could start clearing and dropping soon. If you are fishing, keep an eye out for hatches but otherwise try some streamers and big heavy nymphs. Look for fish to be in their high water lies.

The skies this Friday are a steely gray, but the rain seems to be holding off, so  this should be a good morning to be in the water...but then, I like fishing in the rain, always have.

‘ULTIMATE FISHING TOWN’
Roscoe Needs Regular Help in Final Voting for National Contest

[ROSCOE] – Roscoe is looking for voters to help it win the World Fishing Network (WFN) contest as the "Ultimate Fishing Town" in the United States.  The winning community will receive $25,000 to improve fishing access, as well as a cable TV episode about the town.  The final voting round began at 12:00 noon on May 10 and continues through May 31.

Already known as “Trout Town, USA” – Roscoe is considered the birthplace of the American Dry Fly Fishing, developed by Theodore Gordon and his followers.  A two-hour drive from New York City, Roscoe is home to the junction of two trophy trout streams, the Willowemoc and the Beaverkill, in addition to many nearby lakes, ponds and reservoirs.

Voting is done via email by going to http://www.wfnfishingtown.com/ and following a simple procedure.  Individuals are able to vote four times a day (once each in specific blocks of time) for each e-mail address they have.  Those who voted in the first round are already registered.

First time voters need to follow a set of directions.
Go to http://www.wfnfishingtown.com/ and cast a vote for Roscoe
Individuals will receive an e-mail from WFN to verify their e-mail vote – and must respond to the WFN by clicking on the link.

This process may be repeated for every e-mail account an individual has.
Votes may be cast every six hours until May 31st

Elaine Fettig, President of the Roscoe-Rockland Chamber of Commerce, said there’s help for individuals who want to vote regularly, “Understanding that people are busy and may not be able to process multiple votes per day, we’ve set up a team of volunteers to assist.  After individuals have taken the initial steps and been verified by WFN, simply forward the name and e-mail address used to vote to info@roscoeny.com.  Our team will add it to the list it is processing.”

For more information on how to participate with the Roscoe Chamber, contact Elaine Fettig at 845-439-4039 or ElaineMFettig@aol.com

Roscoe has been a participant in the Sullivan Renaissance program since it began in 2001, and has received awards for several of its yearly projects, including two $50,000 Golden Feather Grants from New York State secured by Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther.

Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation.  For more information, call 845-295-2445.

JUST FOURTEEN HOURS Till Ultimate Fish Town Finals Begin!...GO ROSCOE!

OMG, OMG...just over fourteen hours before the WFN "Ultimate Fish Town" Finals begin!  So very excited here, and have my voting fingers all limbered up and ready to go...COFFEE, need LOTS OF COFFEE.  Vote EARLY, and vote often...four times a day for twenty one days...is that right...OMG.

Too overly dramatic?  OK...maybe just a titch.  We here in Roscoe wish all the top 20 finalists good luck as voting is about ready to begin...may the town with the best fishing (Roscoe) win...ok, so I admit to being a bit prejudice on just where the BEST fishing spots are (ROSCOE), but would you expect less?  If any one is not quite sure how to vote, leave a comment here, and will get right back to you with directions.

At shortly after noon tomorrow, we will be posting up QUICK LINKS that will take you right to our voting page!  You can also scroll down our articles here in the blog and find explicit directions on voting as well.  WE stand ready to help you in your voting in any way that we can.

SULLIVAN COUNTY BUSINESSES HELP BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS

As our residents very well know, the folks over at Sullivan Renaissance are truly a God's send, helping numerous small hamlets and towns like our own as we beautify our communities.  They have just announced their list of businesses who offer discounts to this years grant recipients (see press release below), and we hope all of you will support these businesses who are supporting us in making Roscoe the beautiful small town that it is.

Community Volunteers Get Discounts from Local Merchants

[FERNDALE] – Dozens of local businesses are offering financial support to community organizations that received grants as part of the 2011 Sullivan Renaissance program.  The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce arranged for merchant discounts – typically from 10% to 20% – on products and services volunteers use to clean up and beautify communities.

This is the eleventh year that businesses have participated in the Sullivan Renaissance Merchant Discount Program.

“We know that beautification efforts result in increased tourism and boost economic development.  The Merchant Discount Program is a practical way that local businesses can help themselves while contributing to our economic recovery,” said Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Terri Ward, “Keeping dollars in the county is not only smart and green; you can see the difference that has been made in our communities.”

Ward urges businesses that would still like to join in this year to contact the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce at 845-791-4200 or Sullivan Renaissance at 845-295-2452.  Businesses do not need to be Chamber members to help.

All of the projects awarded grants on April 14th have been given a special discount card and a list of participating businesses.

Renaissance community projects will be completed by August 1 and judged between August 4 and 7.  The Awards Ceremony will be held the evening of August 8 at Monticello High School.

Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation.  Additional funding has been secured by Hon. Maurice D. Hinchey, 22nd Congressional District.  Sponsors include Bold Gold Media Group/Thunder 102, Sullivan County Democrat, The River Reporter, Thompson Sanitation and WSUL/WVOS.

For more information about its programs, call Sullivan Renaissance at 845-295-2445 or visit the website at www.sullivanrenaissance.org.

Finals Start May 10th...Vote ROSCOE
WFN (World Fishing Network) is reviewing votes received during the wildly enthusiastic first round of voting and selecting the "wild card" towns to determine the Top 20 Towns, and though it is not official yet, it looks as if both Roscoe and Waddington from here in New York are in the finals, and if first round voting is an indicator will be battling it out for the title, "Ultimate Fish Town".  We here in Waddington wish our upstate neighbors the best of success in the finals, and encourage everyone supporting Roscoe to get your voting fingers ready, as we have our work cut out for us.

Official Announcement of 20 Finalists May10th!

The official announcement of the 20 finalist in this years, "Ultimate Fish Town" challenge will occur Tuesday May 10th.  The final round of voting will also begin at Noon ET on May 10th, so lets plan on getting out of the gate early with everyone weighing in.  Remember, your votes determine the winner so vote early, and vote often.
